Small Happinesses and Big Unhappinesses: Grandpa Oak

(A client's story – with permission for publication)

A few months ago, I took a walk through a beautiful nature reserve. The scent of pine trees and the gentle rustling of leaves were very calming and brought back memories from a distant past. I decided to sit on a bench to enjoy the view. Next to the bench stood an old tree, sturdy and powerful, overlooking the surroundings. I was overwhelmed with feelings of peace, connection, and gratitude.

A Small Happiness

When I was 8 years old, my parents and I spent a few weeks in a small cabin in a forest in the Ardennes. One of my favorite places was a large old oak tree at the edge of a clearing. I often climbed that tree, felt the rough bark under my hands, and found peace in the heights. It felt as if the tree embraced and protected me. I gave the oak a name: Grandpa Oak. He became my refuge, a place where I felt safe and forgot my worries. Even now, so many years later, I look back on that summer and Grandpa Oak with great warmth.

A Big Unhappiness

One morning, after a stormy night, I discovered that a large part of Grandpa Oak had been struck by lightning. The sturdy branches lay broken on the ground, and my safe spot was destroyed. I ran to my parents, tears streaming down my face. My father explained that nature can sometimes be harsh; I understood his words but felt a deep loss and sadness.

The next day, we returned to the city. I felt torn, as if a part of my heart had been left behind with Grandpa Oak. My parents tried to cheer me up, but nothing seemed to help. The feeling of loss lingered for a long time, and I was afraid I would never feel that same connection with nature again.

What Touches Us Deep Inside?

It is often unexpected moments and small things that touch us the most deeply. The pain of loss, especially of something or someone where we feel safe, can stay with us for a long time. We often learn to suppress these feelings, but they remain stuck in our bodies and can affect us in ways we cannot imagine.

What Unhappinesses Have You Swallowed?

We all carry emotions and energies that are trapped within us. These can be triggered by new experiences that remind us of old pain. By removing these trapped emotions, we can free ourselves from their negative influence and lead a more balanced life.

During an Emotion Code session, where I recalled my memories of the loss of Grandpa Oak, the following emotions were cleared:

  • Loss - the loss of my safe place

  • Sadness - deep sorrow over the destruction

  • Fear - fear that I would never find such a safe place again

  • Anger - anger at nature for taking away my refuge

  • Insecurity - uncertainty about where to find comfort now

  • Overwhelmed - overwhelmed by the intensity of the emotions

This session helped me process the pain of the loss, that remained all this time deep inside of me, and find a sense of peace and acceptance. It was a liberating experience that helped me move forward and find safe places in my life again.

From Unhappiness to Happiness

By removing our trapped emotions, we can transform the stuck emotions we experienced during our unhappinesses into happinesses.
